Alex Caiola, founder of High Priestess of Brooklyn, brings her astrological advice to our blog this April to help founders solve small business problems intuitively.

Does it feel like you’ve been on-the-go without stopping to catch your breath? That’s Aries season, alright. But we’re headed into Taurus season, and it’s your chance to put your foot on the brakes.
Taurus season marks a deliberately slower pace, which allows you to take stock — something that’s tough during the action-packed Aries season. Curious about the details of this more tempered Taurus season? Read on for your entrepreneurial astrological forecast to help you to avoid common pitfalls and capitalize on the season’s energy.
Now’s the time for you to just stop and breathe. On April 20, the Sun moved into the constellation of the fixed Earth sign of Taurus. You might remember from my first post that the Sun is a luminary in astrology, and one that illustrates how we shine and what we’ll be interested in for a cycle of time. Taurean ideals are stability, loyalty, and integrity, so they’re in the spotlight.
As we discussed when Venus and Mercury moved into Taurus (which gave you a glimpse into this season), these next 30 days are well-suited to focus on the quality of your goods, service, and brand resonance. If Aries energy says to “move fast and break things,” planets and luminaries in Taurus ask us to take things “slow and steady.” After all, providing well-crafted products that stand the test of time takes patience and perseverance.
The Entrepreneurial archetype for the season is Jessica Alba of The Honest Company, who has her Sun in Taurus. She created a clean consumer packaged goods brand, one that’s concerned with sustainability and operational integrity. This perfectly embodies the fixed Earth sign's approach to business. On Friday, April 21, Mercury went into Retrograde in Taurus. What does this mean?
You’ve probably heard of this one before! Retrogrades are natural patterns in which a planet stops forward momentum and appears to move backward in the sky.
Mercury is the fastest-moving planet of communication, so it retrogrades often. Because we’re so used to Mercury’s fast-moving forward momentum, we feel the impacts when it stops or changes momentum — this often looks like miscommunication at varying degrees.
Mercury retrograding in Taurus means that we can spend time reviewing our commitments and ensuring we act with integrity. Do you feel overcommitted and stretched too thin, jeopardizing your work product? Use the next three weeks to shift back into a Taurean ideal of quality over quantity. After that, Mercury will move direct again on May 15 and we’ll no longer feel those retrograde effects.
Pro-tip: you can still be productive during this time if you dust off items from the “parking lot” to revise and edit. Remember that concepts like quality improvements and sustainability are supported during this time.
On Monday, May 1, Pluto goes Retrograde. What does this mean?
Wait — didn’t I just tell you about Pluto last month? Yes, bonus points for you! Pluto did just move into Aquarius. But now, Pluto will take its turn to retrace the progress made during its quick jaunt in Aquarius. Pluto moves the slowest in our solar system, and it’ll traverse into the last degrees of Capricorn before turning direct again in October.
Societally, we may see some outdated structures breaking down further to support progress. Consider the examples of the Great Recession and the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008, aligning with the Great Recession. As Pluto left the sign in March of this year, SVB fell. All of this reminds us that growth isn’t linear. Keeping tabs on the astrology of it all can help us understand the larger story.
On Friday, May 5, we have a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio. What does this mean?
We’re in an eclipse portal, which started at the tail end of Aries season. The second (eclipses always come in pairs) occurs in the sign of Scorpio, the opposite, or sister, sign to Taurus.
A Full Moon Lunar Eclipse is like a full moon on steroids, and the great thing about this one is that we have recent historical data to compare it to — lucky us!
The first eclipse on the Taurus/Scorpio axis of personal and shared values (aka the money axis) was in November 2021. The most recent was in November of 2022. These eclipses coincide with more extensive societal learning and reflection on resources.
This particular moon is tripping the Scorpio south node, while Mercury (the communication planet) and Uranus (the innovation and disruption planet) work closely with the Sun. You’ll be encouraged to know that this indicates you’ll have breakthroughs to greater understanding.
If you’re curious about tracing the steps of the eclipses to track your personal growth story, look at the months of October/November 2021, April/May 2022, and October/November 2022. The last eclipses on this cycle will occur in October 2023.
Fun fact: this eclipse cycle has been a massive push for me and my business — I met the client who helped me form my MBA program!
On Sunday, May 7, Venus enters Cancer. What does this mean?
Just days after the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse, we’ll see Venus, the planet of attraction and design, move into Cancer. You’ll remember that Mars, the action planet, moved into Venus last month, helping you to make moves around taking care of your employees.
Now that Venus is here, you might be able to package the learnings from the reviews, or decide upon a benefits program to deliver to employees. If you want my advice on the best week to do this while Venus is in Cancer, it would be the week of May 15, after Mercury moves direct and when Jupiter trines Mars in the last degrees of Cancer.
On Wednesday, May 17, Jupiter enters Taurus. What does this mean?
Speaking of Jupiter (the planet of expansion and luck), this planet will be moving into Taurus on May 17. Jupiter has been flirting in the cardinal sign of Aries since its first ingress (when a planet first moves into a sign) during the summer of 2022. Since then, we’ve seen that Jupiter was here to support initiation energy, encouraging us to take action on our goals — act first, think later.
With Jupiter in Taurus until May 2024, expect rewards for your consistency, sustainability, and integrity. We’ve been meditating on these themes since the top of the season. If you’ve been introducing many new programs, projects, or revenue streams, now would be the time to let the roots take hold. Water them, tend to them, and try to be patient.
The New Moon in Taurus on May 19 will reinforce these themes, as we’ll have a stellium (when three or more planets are in the same sign for a period of time) in Taurus that day. From May 15 - May 19, we’re all but guaranteed to see income rise. Aren’t you glad you kept reading?
On Saturday, May 20, Mars enters Leo. What does this mean?
On the last day of the season, we have one more pivotal Planetary move: Mars enters the fixed fire sign of Leo, where it will stay until July of this year.
Despite all of that excitement, get ready for a slower pace this month as the Taurus energy helps to bring the tempo down for a bit.
